The satellite orbits at 36,000 km of altitude in a orbit called geostationary . At that altitude, the satellite performs one revolution around the Earth every 24 hours, the same time that Earth takes to complete one rotation around its axis.
Thus, as the two periods are equal, the satellite remains over the same point in space, making it possible to obtain pictures of the same spatial region.
